Software-Defined Optical Networks
Dynamic optical switching, programmable network architectures and quantum key distribution integration, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Optics and Photonics of the University of L'Aquila.
Software-defined optical networks are the transport foundation of the services NSLab works on: multi-band and space-division-multiplexing transmission, programmable optical switching, spatial passive optical networks and the integration of quantum key distribution with classical traffic.
This research line is carried out together with the Laboratory of Optics and Photonics of the University of L'Aquila, which operates the field-deployed multi-core and multi-mode fibre testbed in L'Aquila, part of the CNIT FIBERS national laboratory. NSLab brings the control-plane, orchestration and O-RAN side; the photonics lab brings the transmission and physical-layer expertise. Joint activities include the SEASON and GASTON projects and the field trials presented at OFC.
