The project

EDIHAMo – European Digital Innovation Hub Abruzzo Molise brings together 31 key stakeholders of the Abruzzo and Molise regions (universities, research institutes, innovation poles, trade associations, development agencies, ITS academies and technology companies) to establish a regional competence centre on digital technologies, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, High-Performance Computing and cybersecurity. Coordinated by Match 4.0 – DIH Abruzzo, the hub delivers subsidised services to SMEs and public administrations in four areas: digital-maturity assessment, test-before-invest access to AI/HPC/edge facilities, training and skills development, and support in accessing funding. Selected under the Digital Europe call DIGITAL-2021-EDIH-01 with a Seal of Excellence, EDIHAMo is funded by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy under PNRR Mission 4 Component 2 Investment 2.3 (NextGenerationEU).

Our role

The University of L'Aquila (DISIM, Networks & Services Lab) acted as service provider for WP2 – Assessment and WP3 – Test-Before-Invest, sitting in the hub's Steering Committee. NSLab delivered technical audits and digital-maturity assessments based on a CMMI-derived framework over nine dimensions (architecture, data quality, algorithms, integration, cybersecurity, industrial maturity, scalability, documentation, training), followed by structured test-before-invest experimental campaigns with quantitative metrics, acceptance thresholds and deployment recommendations. Services were provided free of charge to micro and small enterprises and public bodies and covered AI-assisted segmentation for industrial printing, computer vision for robot guidance and quality control, UAV object tracking, mm-wave radar for precision agriculture, wearable physiological sensing, edge-cloud data pipelines for healthcare, LSTM-based weather forecasting, industrial 3D printing and a 5G-enabled augmented-reality application for construction sites, benchmarked on the lab's private O-RAN 5G testbed against Wi-Fi and public 5G. In total 16 services were delivered to 8 companies and one public body, all completed by March 2026.
